Washington, DC -- Federal income tax rates would have to be more than doubled across the income spectrum if Congress were to close the deficit in fiscal year 2010, according to a new report from the nonpartisan Tax Foundation. Instead of taxing joint filers with rates ranging from 10 percent to 35 percent, tax rates would have to start at 24.3 percent and reach up to 84.9 percent.

President Obama wants a health care bill now. And this time, he swears it will be corruption-free.

Yet it's hard to imagine a more pro-corruption strategy than the president's.

Members of the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit arrested two Anne Arundel County men today as a result of two unrelated investigations into the possession and distribution of child pornography.

James William Szczepanik, 19, of the 7900 block of Pipers Path, Glen Burnie, Md., was arrested this afternoon and charged with five counts of distributing child pornography and ten counts of possessing child pornography.

Police in Baltimore County have arrested and charged six suspects with the murder of William Porter, 49, who was shot on March 1, inside his business, a Hess gas station, located on Joppa Road in Towson. Porter died from his injuries on March 2 at Shock Trauma.

Annapolis, Md. — Several dead bats and over two hundred visibly affected bats were found during a survey conducted in an Allegany County cave near Cumberland on March 5. The bats observed during the survey exhibited a white fungus concentrated around the muzzle of the infected bats. The findings are consistent with White-Nose Syndrome (WNS) and if confirmed, this will be Maryland’s first documented occurrence of the disease.

Howard County police have a warrant for the arrest of a man who cut a mall security officer after being caught shoplifting. Police are seeking the public’s help in locating the suspect and are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to his arrest.
