Updated: Video report added below: FREDERICK, MD (November 4, 2009)—A joint investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the Maryland State Police and the Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing to determine the cause of a fire that claimed the life of a 26-year old Germantown man this morning. The fire at the FSK Food and Fuel located in the 5500 block of Buckeystown Pike, Frederick caused approximately $60,000.00 in damage to the service station fuel pump and the vehicle the man was operating.

The 4:05 a.m. fire was reported to the Frederick County 911 Center which brought firefighters from United Fire Company to the scene. Investigators determined that a Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputy had been in the immediate area when the fire call was dispatched. When he arrived the deputy observed the victim on fire in the area of an adjacent parking lot and a vehicle parked at the fuel pumps. The man’s Nissan SUV along with the fuel pumps were fully engulfed in flames.

The man has been identified as Ainsley Ronald Gordon, Jr., 26 year-old from Germantown, Maryland. He died as a result of his burns this morning at Med Star, DC Burn Unit where he had been transported by Maryland State Police helicopter.

Investigators have determined Gordon stopped at the Exxon Station for fuel but what ignited the fire remains under investigation.

Deputy State Fire Marshals are seeking the public’s help in this investigation.

Anyone who may have been at the station or driving by and saw anything unusual is urged to call the “Maryland Arson Hotline” at 1-800-492-7529 or the Metro Regional Office at 410-871-3050.
