Quotables

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed [and hence clamorous to be led to safety] by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."

--H. L. Mencken

The Carroll County Planning Commission will be joined by the planning commissions from the Towns of Hampstead, Manchester, and New Windsor and the City of Westminster to hold a public hearing on the draft Water Resources Element. The purpose of the public hearing is to give the public an opportunity to provide verbal comment on the draft document to the members of the planning commissions.

The joint hearing will be held on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at 7 p.m. in Room 003 of the County Office Building, located at 225 North Center Street in Westminster. Written comments may also be submitted at any time prior to the close of the public hearing. Written comments should be directed to Brenda Dinne, Chief of the Bureau of Comprehensive Planning, by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Carroll County and all of its municipalities are required by state law to adopt a Water Resources Element. The draft was developed through a cooperative effort of the Carroll County Water Resources Coordination Council, which includes representatives of the county government and all eight municipalities.

The Towns of Union Bridge, Mount Airy, and Sykesville also will be holding public hearings on the same draft document. They will, however, hold their own individual hearings. The Union Bridge Planning Commission also will hold its public hearing on the evening of Feb. 11, but starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall in Union Bridge. The Mount Airy and Sykesville Planning Commissions will hold individual public hearings at their respective town offices on the evening of Feb. 17. Both will begin at 7 p.m.
