Baltimore County Delegate Pat McDonough believes the recent E-Verify resolution introduced into the County Council is weak and non-productive. The East-side Lawmaker claims the E-Verify proposal should be legislation or law, not a non-binding resolution. Moreover, McDonough says “The County needs an outright ban on contractors using illegals as employees.” Such a ban already exists and has for years in Anne Arundel County.
“It is unfair during these difficult economic times for American workers to be denied employment because an illegal immigrant occupies their job position.” According to a recent national study, Baltimore County taxpayers spend almost $200 million on education, healthcare, and jail costs for illegal aliens. These figures do not include additional costs of welfare, food stamps, and criminal activities by illegal alien gangs.”
“The illegal alien population in Baltimore County is growing, and if the Executive and the Council fail to act, it will create the appearance of our sub-division becoming a ‘sanctuary county.’ This image will attract more illegals and their taxpayer burdens,” McDonough said.
I am calling for a 3-Step Initiative to protect Baltimore County taxpayers and workers:
- Mandate by law an E-Verify Program with all County contractors.
- Require all County Contractors to sign an affidavit guaranteeing they will not hire illegal aliens.
- Implement the Federal Immigration Act, Section 287, which will mandate law-enforcement actions backed or supported by the federal government against illegal alien criminals (similar to the Frederick County Program).
“These types of real and firm programs will accomplish our goal. Half-measures and weak proposals are deceptive and useless,” Delegate McDonough concluded.
