The Freedom District Lions Club held their regular meeting at the Messiah Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall on February 24, 2010.  The speaker for the meeting was Corporal Worthington Washington of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department.  Corporal Washington is the officer responsible for the DARE drug program in the county schools.  He informed the Lions of the progress being made by the DARE program.  He also showed samples of the materials given to our youth to hopefully keep them from using drugs.

WESTMINSTER – Business professor Susan Milstein and a volunteer corps of three-dozen McDaniel College students are providing free tax assistance to low- to moderate-income taxpayers through April 3.

The program, called the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), is designed to help those who are single earning less than $35,000 and couples earning no more than $50,000.

The public is invited to attend a celebration of the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 18, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at McDaniel College. Participants in the program, entitled "Day On Not a Day Off", will learn more about the work of Dr. King and engage in conversation about service to the community.
