Inattentive Cop, Two Others Hospitalized Following Rear-end Collision On Rt. 32 at Day Road

Police in Howard County are investigating an accident that occurred between a marked Police Vehicle and three other vehicles on Thursday at approximately 5:55 PM on Rt. 32 near Day Road.

The Police Vehicle a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria was southbound on MD Rt. 32 just north of Day Road when it rear-ended a 2002 Ford Econoline Van which was also southbound. The Ford Van subsequently struck a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe that was northbound on MD Rt. 32. The officer was not responding to an emergency call at the time of the collision.

The  has been identified as Ofc. Jonathan Campbell, 23 years of age. The Officer was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center by Maryland State Police Medivac and was listed in stable condition. The officer has been serving with the Howard County Police Department for two (2) years.

The Driver of the Ford Van has been identified as Robert Keefer - 62 years of age- of the 700 Blk. of Sykesville Road Sykesville, MD. The Driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe has been identified as Linda Cole –57 years of age- of the 1100 Blk. of Canterbury Court Sykesville, MD. Both drivers were transported by Ambulance to the Howard County General Hospital with none life threatening injuries.

MD Rt. 32 was closed to thru traffic between River Road and Deer Hill Road until 7:15 PM during which time traffic was detoured by Police and State Highway Administration Personnel.
